As a professional carpenter, I understand the importance of having the right tools for the job. When it comes to cutting 6-inch skirting boards, a reliable and precise mitre saw is essential. With so many options on the market, finding the best one can be a daunting task. After extensive research and testing, I have narrowed down the top mitre saws that are ideal for cutting 6-inch skirting boards.

One of the top choices is the DeWalt DWS780 Compound Sliding Mitre Saw. This saw offers a wide cutting capacity, allowing you to easily cut through 6-inch skirting boards. It features a powerful motor and a sliding function, which provides increased cutting capacity. The precise bevel and miter adjustments ensure accuracy and precision in every cut. Additionally, this saw has a durable construction and is built to withstand the demands of professional use.

Another great option for cutting 6-inch skirting boards is the Bosch GCM12SD Dual-Bevel Glide Miter Saw. This saw combines power, precision, and versatility to deliver exceptional results. It has a large cutting capacity and a smooth glide system, allowing for effortless cutting of 6-inch skirting boards. The dual-bevel feature enables you to make precise cuts at any angle, making it perfect for complex projects. With its innovative design and reliable performance, this saw is a top choice for professionals.

Factors to Consider When Choosing a Mitre Saw

As someone who has been working with mitre saws for several years, I understand the importance of choosing the right tool for the job. There are several factors that you should consider when selecting a mitre saw, especially when you are looking for one to use specifically for cutting 6-inch skirting.

Type of Blade

The type of blade on the mitre saw is crucial in ensuring clean and precise cuts on your 6-inch skirting. Look for a saw that comes with a high-quality, sharp and durable blade that is designed specifically for cutting wood. A blade with a high tooth count will provide a smoother and cleaner cut, while a blade with carbide tips will have a longer lifespan.

Saw Size and Capacity

The size and capacity of the mitre saw are also important considerations. Since you will be cutting 6-inch skirting, make sure the saw is capable of handling such a large size. Look for a saw with a maximum cutting capacity that exceeds the size of your skirting, so you can make angled cuts without any difficulty. Additionally, consider the size and weight of the saw, as you want a tool that is easy to handle and maneuver.

Bevel and Miter Angles

When cutting skirting boards, it’s important to have the flexibility to make angled cuts. Look for a mitre saw that offers a wide range of bevel and miter angles, allowing you to cut the skirting at various angles and create the perfect corners. A saw with positive stops at common angles will help you quickly set the saw to the desired angle, saving you time and ensuring accuracy.

Additional Features

Finally, consider any additional features that may enhance your experience with the mitre saw. Features such as a laser guide or LED light can help increase precision and accuracy, while a dust collection system can keep your workspace clean and free of debris. These added features may not be essential, but they can certainly make your work easier and more enjoyable.

By considering factors such as the type of blade, saw size and capacity, bevel and miter angles, and additional features, you can choose the best mitre saw for cutting 6-inch skirting. Remember to prioritize quality and durability, as a good saw will last you for years to come and provide you with clean and accurate cuts every time.

Dust Collection: Cutting skirting boards can create a lot of dust, so it’s important to choose a mitre saw that has a good dust collection system. Look for a saw with a dust bag or a vacuum attachment to keep your work area clean and free from dust particles.

Size and Weight: Finally, consider the size and weight of the mitre saw. Skirting boards can be long and heavy, so you’ll want a saw that is portable and easy to maneuver. Look for a saw that is compact and lightweight, but still sturdy enough to handle the size and weight of skirting boards.

How to Properly Use a Mitre Saw for Skirting

When it comes to cutting skirting boards, a mitre saw can be a great tool to ensure clean, accurate cuts. However, it is important to use the saw correctly to achieve the best results. Here are some steps to help you properly use a mitre saw for skirting:

Step 1: Safety First

Before you start using a mitre saw, make sure you have taken all necessary safety precautions. Wear safety glasses to protect your eyes from any flying debris. Use a dust mask to prevent inhalation of sawdust. Always keep your hands at a safe distance from the blade and never reach behind the saw while it is running. Familiarize yourself with the specific safety features of your mitre saw.

Step 2: Prepare the Saw

Set up your mitre saw on a stable work surface, ensuring it is securely fastened. Adjust the blade angle and height according to your desired cutting angle. Secure the skirting board firmly against the mitre saw fence, making sure it is stable and won’t move during the cutting process.

Step 3: Make Accurate Cuts

When making the cuts, start the saw and allow the blade to reach full speed before bringing it down onto the skirting board. Use a slow and steady motion to guide the blade through the skirting board, ensuring a smooth and even cut. Avoid rushing or forcing the blade, as this can result in splintering or uneven cuts.

For straight cuts, use the mitre saw’s 90-degree angle setting. If you need to make angled cuts, adjust the mitre saw accordingly. To achieve clean and precise corners, it is important to accurately measure and mark the skirting board before cutting.

Step 4: Double-Check Measurements

After making a cut, double-check the measurements to ensure they are accurate. This will help you prevent any mistakes and ensure a seamless installation of the skirting boards.

Step 5: Clean Up

Once you have finished cutting the skirting boards, clean up any debris or sawdust from the work area. This will help maintain a safe and tidy workspace.

By following these steps and using the mitre saw properly, you can achieve clean, accurate cuts for your skirting boards. Remember to always prioritize safety and take your time to ensure the best results.

  • The Fulton Miter Gauge is a high quality, well thought out and economical solution for your table saw cross cutting needs. The Aluminum Miter fence is equally well thought out with its 45 degree ends for unsurpassed workpiece support and its ability to mounted to most any miter gauge. Also included is a handy aluminum flip stop for repetitive angled cuts on your table saw. Together these three items are the perfect compliment to each other for your table saw cutting needs.
  • The .200” thick, adjustable, solid aluminum head is machined with 13 positive stop holes. 1 hole is at 90 degrees while the 6 holes on both sides are at 22.5, 30, 45, 60, 67.5 and 90 degrees. The positive stops are perfect for many woodworking projects as they are the angles that are typically used.To adjust the head you simply loosen the post knob handle, pull the spring loaded indexing pin outward, rotate the head to the desired position, release the pin and lock into place.
  • The head is mounted to a solid steel miter bar that measure 18” in length and is .354” thick by .730” wide. Standard miter slots are 3/4” x 3/8” with a 1/8” “T” slot (slight variances from brand to brand) running the length on the bottom of the slot. The steel miter bar is equipped with a metal, removable retaining disc that measures 7/8” in diameter and is just shy of 1/8” to fit into to the “T” slot to prevent accidental lifting when feeding your stock through.
  • Made from a single piece of extruded aluminum, this precision miter gauge fence is not only durable, its accurate and saves setup time. The fence is designed to be used with most any miter gauge with its off-set mounting track on the back of the fence. The off-set track allows you to flip the fence for lower profile miter gauge mounts and flip back for standard height miter gauges. The fence can be mounted to older miter gauges by adding a wooden block mount with wooden screws if necessary.
  • Both ends of the fence are cut at exactly 45 degrees. This allows you to position the fence extra close to the saw blade (with the power turned off) so you have even more control over the workpiece you are cutting. The fence comes with a flip stop that makes repetitive cuts a breeze. When not in use the flip stop can be flipped up and out of the way. Also include are two sticky back measuring tapes. 1 tape is left to right reading and the other is right to left reading.
